EUGENE, Ore. -- A man has been arrested on multiple charges including unlawful use of a weapon after allegedly firing a handgun from the sixth floor of an apartment building.
Eugene police received multiple calls around 12:54 a.m. Tuesday morning about a man firing a handgun into the street at Lane Tower Apartments at 1601 Olive Street. Residents said several shots were fired and a man was yelling from the apartment.
As officers arrived, a resident in the building reported the shooter had exited his apartment and entered the elevator. Officers found the suspect, 25-year-old Elliot Michael Smith-Chisholm, exiting the building still armed with the handgun.
Smith-Chisholm surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
Police say Chisholm fired one round from his sixth-floor apartment towards a person standing near his vehicle parked on the street in front of the building.
Impairment from drugs or alcohol appears to be a contributing factor, police said.
Smith-Chisholm was booked at the Lane County Jail on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, reckless endangering, and menacing.
Additional witnesses or victims are asked to contact Officer John Loos at 541-682-5154 ext. 1129.
