Man arrested after alleged early morning assault

Officials were called to the 4600 block of Scottdale Street around 1:10 a.m.

EUGENE, Ore. -- A man was arrested in Eugene early Monday morning following a report of an assault.

Officials responded to the 4600 block of Scottdale Street around 1 a.m. They say Bret Ellis had assaulted a woman he knew and fled the area. The victim was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

Deputies found Ellis walking near his residence and attempted to stop him. He refused until a Lane County Sheriff's Office police dog arrived. He was taken into custody without incident. He faces charges of attempted rape, strangulation and assault.

The condition of the victim is unknown at this time.
