SPRINGFIELD, Ore.-- A man is behind bars for allegedly killing his passenger when his motorcycle crashed in August of 2019.
Jesse Martinez, 24, was arraigned Wednesday in Lane County Court on two charges, including manslaughter and driving under the influence of an intoxicant. According to court documents, Martinez is accused of killing 63-year-old Sharla Mossey.
According to Springfield Police, Martinez was driving southbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway when he lost control of his motorcycle just before entering the roundabout at the Harlow Road intersection. Witnesses told police Martinez hit a curb and street sign before he and Mossey were thrown from the motorcycle.
Matinez was taken to RiverBend Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Mossey was declared dead at the scene.
He will be back in court on Feb. 25.
