COOS BAY, Ore. – A Coos Bay police officer is facing a long list of charges alleging he sexually abused a child over the course of many years.

Court documents claim that Terry Rogers, 51, started abusing a child under the age of 12 in 2012, and the abuse continued until 2018.

Rogers faces 20 counts, including multiple charges of first and second-degree unlawful sexual penetration, first and third-degree sex abuse, and luring a minor.

In a document seeking Rogers’ release, possibly with bail, his lawyer says he has served as a police officer in the city for 22 years and has significant ties to the community.

KEZI 9 News reached out to Police Chief Chris Chapanar, who said he could not comment at this time.
