Log truck rolls over, killing driver on Highway 38 near Elkton

Police are investigating what caused the truck to roll over.

ELKTON, Ore. -- Oregon State Police is investigating the death of a North Bend man on Highway 38 on Wednesday, in which the man’s log truck rolled onto him.

John Dickens, 63, was headed eastbound on the highway near Elkton when he stopped along the highway and got out of the loaded Kenworth log truck. Police said the truck started rolling and struck him, causing his death.

Troopers responded to milepost 37 just after 11 a.m.

Police are investigating what caused the log truck to roll, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials are assisting.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon Department of Transportation, Elkton Fire Department and Mast Brothers Towing were also on scene.
