SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Local health care workers received a military-style salute Friday morning for their efforts to combat coronavirus.
Three local pilots performed flyovers in formation above hospitals in Springfield and Corvallis as well as a flyover of downtown Eugene.
The pilots, local members of the Experimental Aircraft Association, said they wanted to send a message of hope to those on the front lines.
“I hope it brings a smile to their face. I hope they see some joy and maybe a bit of relief from what they’re going through,” said Joseph May, one of the pilots.
The Oregon Air National Guard conducted dozens of flyovers in F-15s across the state but not in the Eugene-Springfield area.
Pilot Ray Beverly said he and his fellow pilots wanted to step in so local health care workers also felt honored.
“It’s a way…we can say to others ‘hang in there. We’re all in this together,” Beverly said. “Thank you to the medical industry for what they’re doing.”
