LINN COUNTY, Ore. – A Linn County Planning and Building Department employee has been arrested, accused of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars, Sheriff Jim Yon said.
Office manager Angela Adams, 48, allegedly stole $235,000 from the department over eight years.
Yon said in March 2020 a county employee told the county administrative officer they suspected Adams was stealing. A financial audit was conducted, ending that November. It reportedly revealed the financial discrepancies.
The sheriff’s office conducted a criminal investigation, interviewing county employees, serving a search warrant and serving numerous subpoenas.
Detectives reportedly determined that about $235,000 in cash payments made to the department had not been deposited with the Linn County Treasurer in the past eight years. Yon said detectives found receipts for cash payments had been deleted from the permit software, but they were able to recover them, as they were backed up in the archive system.
Adams was taken to the Linn County Jail for 10 counts of first-degree aggravated theft and two counts of first-degree theft.
The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information, contact Detective Matt Wilcox at 541-967-3950.
