SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Staff at a Springfield nonprofit are thankful no one was hurt after a bolt of lightning struck near their property Wednesday afternoon.

It happened at The Arc Lane County on North 42nd and E streets at around 2 p.m.

The lightning strike was captured on a security camera.

Frank Newell was doing yard work when the lightning struck. He said it hit a nearby light pole in the parking lot.

"Definitely counting my blessings type of thing," Newell said. "It was really close to me but did damage to other things around."

The lightning damaged a wooden fence and shattered some of the concrete in the parking lot.

According to the Springfield Electric Board, the extra jolt of electricity also caused a power outage at the Arc's building.

Lindsay Dawson, who works at the Arc, said the zap also fried the electronics of at least five cars -- including hers.

"My daughter goes to school in Cottage Grove and we live up here, and now I'm unable to pick up my children," Dawson said.
