LEBANON, Ore., -- The principal at Seven Oak Middle School resigned earlier this week, and some community members say it was because of pushback he received from district officials.

Former principal, Wayne Reposa, resigned Tuesday and will be taking paid personal leave for the rest of the school year.

The district will hold a number of forums to get community input, to find the best solution to the overcrowding problem. The schedule for the forums are as follows:

Cascades School – 2163 S. 7th Street
Wednesday, January 31, 5:00-6:30 PM in the Library

Seven Oak Middle School – 550 Cascades Drive
Monday, February 5, 4:00-5:30 PM in the Library

Green Acres School – 700 S. 10th Street
Tuesday, February 6, 3:00-4:30 PM in the Cafeteria

Pioneer School – 500 N. 5th Street
Monday, February 12, 6:30-8:00 PM in the Library

Riverview School – 1011 Mountain River Drive
Wednesday, February 21, 6:00-7:30 PM in the Library

DeLane Overton, a former counselor at Seven Oak, said he understood what Reposa was going through. Overton resigned in December and said it was because he also received district pushback on issues he tried advocating for.

Overton said Reposa brought the issue of overcrowding at the middle school to the district's attention. He said Reposa met with Robert Hess, the Lebanon Community Schools superintendent, along with other district officials multiple times to discuss the issue.

However, Overton said when the district didn't provide the support needed to solve the problem, Reposa brought it up publicly at a school board meeting in December.

"He knew he was taking a risk, he brought this up knowing, due to the issues with leadership at the district level, he knew he was going to get hammered for this," Overton said. "He knew there were going to be repercussions but he felt it had to be brought up and the idea of these forums came from him bringing this up."

Hess said overcrowding at the middle school is definitely an issue and is something they have been working to fix for more than a year. Earlier this month, the district sent a memo to students and parents discussing the issue and detailing possible solutions.

"Obviously I can't talk about anyone's choices they make, but what I can say is everyone is concerned about the overcrowding at the school," Hess said. "That's why there is a memo, that's why there are community forums, that's why we are providing lots of support at the school."

KEZI 9 News reached out to Reposa, but he said he was unable to comment publicly about this issue.
