VENETA, Ore. - Volunteer and paid firefighters alike celebrated Christmas on the clock, because they say saving lives never takes a break.

Firefighters said they're pleased to be able to do this job and make sure people are safe.

"I think it's just important to have somebody there, regardless. Emergencies don't take a holiday," said one of the volunteer firefighters, Ernesto Zarazua.

Zarazua said he would easily volunteer to work another Christmas if it meant saving a life.

They did hold a dinner to celebrate the holiday, but staff said for the most part it felt like any other day of work to them.
