EUGENE, Ore. – For renters in need of assistance in Lane County, help could be on the way.
Eligibility applications will open on Wednesday at 9 a.m. and close at 11:59 p.m. on July 22.
A total of $5.1 million in funding is available through the federal CARES Act.
Households that are eligible and complete an application will be selected to received funding via a lottery for expenses beginning on March 1, 2020.
To be eligible, the unit must be located in the county and there needs to be an active rental agreement or lease in the applicant’s name. They must be able to document a loss of income as a direct result of coronavirus or have compromised health status or elevated risk during the pandemic and show that losing housing would put them in jeopardy health-wise.
Also, the household income level must be at or below 80% of the county’s area median income (AMI).

Rent assistance can be used for rent payments and arrearages, manufacture home rental space, housing relocation assistance and more.

Eligible applications that are selected in the lottery will be forwarded to the agency requested by the applicant, which will follow up to process the application and distribute the funds to landlords or utility companies.
