EUGENE, Ore. – Lane County Public Health reported the county’s fifth coronavirus-related death on Thursday.
Officials said a 79-year-old man from outside the Eugene-Springfield area died Wednesday night.
He had been in the hospital before his death.
PeaceHealth officials issued a statement:
"As caregivers devoted to the ministry of healing, we are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own patients and offer our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends."
The first COVID-19 death in Lane County was a woman who died at RiverBend Hospital on March 14. The second life claimed by the virus in the county was a 59-year-old man from the Eugene-Springfield area who died at a hospital on April 23. Then, a 62-year-old man from rural Lane County died on May 4. On Aug. 12, a woman in her 70s died from coroanvirus-related causes at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center.
