EUGENE, Ore. -- Lane County, Food for Lane County, and local restaurants have joined together in a relief effort to feed the homeless at Lane County's temporary respite shelters.
This effort provides both food for people in need and income for local businesses.
Bagel Sphere is one local business that has been very involved and provides daily breakfast, as well as additional weekend meals.
A handful of vendors indicated interest in participating, and Lane County has worked to provide as many viable applicants as possible with opportunities to participate.
Considerations include the vendor’s ability to provide an appropriate scale of service, a recent satisfactory health inspection, as well as selecting a variety of food types and vendor locations.
Justin Freeman at Bagel Sphere said it's this kind of thinking that will help us weather the storm as a community at large.
"Being able to provide economical and nutritious meals to help serve these ends is simply the right thing to do and it's one of those intersections where business and public policy can partner together to promote social good," he said.
