The six raging wildfires in Southern California have continued to grow to 140,000 acres, destroying more than 400 homes and other buildings. Officials reported one woman has died, trying to escape in her car.

Fire crews said the powerful Santa Ana winds, fueling the six fires have calmed significantly, giving firefighters a chance to gain some ground.

The evacuation orders in Ventura County have been lifted. But in San Diego county, several people were injured trying to escape from the fast-moving Lilac Fire, which destroyed more than 100 homes and other buildings. As of Sunday morning, it is 15 percent contained.

Chief Terry Ney with Lane Fire Authority has been in contact with firefighters from Lane County who are in Southern California.

He says the Strike Team One remains in Ventura County, battling the Thomas Fire. Strike Team Two is re-deploying from Los Angeles County to the San Diego area to fight the Lilac Fire.

Ney says all team members are safe and sound as of Sunday morning.
