EUGENE, Ore. -- A Lane Community College Board of Education member and community activist is facing sex abuse charges.

Eugene police said they got a report on April 21 that Philip Carrasco, 41, had sexually abused an underage female acquaintance.

Carrasco was arrested Saturday on two counts of third-degree sexual abuse, a misdemeanor charge. He has since been released from jail.

Police said the charges are not related to Carrasco’s role as a board member with LCC. The board is not commenting on his arrest.

Carrasco has served in many other roles in the community, including as the human rights commissioner for the city of Eugene, the Young Fathers Program coordinator for Catholic Community Services of Lane County, and as an organizer for various labor groups.

In 2017, Carrasco was given the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Leader Award from the city of Eugene.
