COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – Embattled superintendent Krista Parent was effectively fired by the South Lane school board Tuesday night following months of controversy and growing complaints from educators, parents, and administrators.
The board unanimously approved Kyle Tucker as acting superintendent.

Parent will be allowed to retire at the end of June. In the meantime, the board said, she will work in an independent, off-site role on special projects.
Alan Baas, chairman of the board, said in a statement that Parent would "assist in smoothly transitioning the District to new leadership."
"Dr. Parent has spent the last 33 in service to the children of this District first as a teacher and then as a Superintendent," Baas said. "Her body of work during that time has been recognized nation-wide and our District is in a better place for it."
Parent was accused of harassing and slandering a school district employee in an anonymous hand-written letter that was delivered to the board in August. A forensic analyst, who was hired by residents to study the note, determined that Parent was the likely author.
