Junction City man arrested in Vancouver, accused of domestic violence

JUNCTION CITY, Ore. -- A man accused of beating his domestic partner and her service animal was arrested in Vancouver, Washington, police say.

Chief Bob Morris said Juan Mejia, 23, was returned to Oregon today and booked into the Lane County Jail.

Mejia was reportedly caught after Morris tracked his truck to a repair shop across the state line. Officers staked out the garage until Mejia returned to pick up his vehicle.

The victim told police that Mejia punched her between 50 and 100 times over a period of weeks. This includes blows to the abdomen, she said, even though she was pregnant.

Mejia is also accused of hitting the victim's service dog, causing pain and suffering to the animal.

Junction City police booked Mejia on charges of felony assault, misdemeanor assault, animal abuse, interfering with a report, coercion, and rape. However the Lane County District Attorney's office charged Mejia with only the assault charges.
