EUGENE, Ore -- 2018 is the year of perennials, annuals and shrubs. Every year, organizations like Proven Winner and National Garden Bureau select the most reliable and outstanding plants that are easy to produce and sell well.
Caleb Johnson with Johnson Brothers Garden Market reveals this year's big show stoppers.
"There are a few groups out there that put together their recommendations on whatever trends they see in the plant world or whatever plant they feel is going to be the plant of the year. The Perennial Plant Association has chosen this guy right here as the perennial of the year. It's Allium Millenium, which is the onion family. It gets the long stalks with the big purple globe-shaped flowers. It's an awesome perennial," Johnson said.
The National Garden Bureau selected tulips as this year's gardening trend along with calibrachoas, coreoposis and beets.
"Proven Winners, which is a plant breeder, they have a couple great plants. Their Supertunia Bordeaux is their plant of the year, and Spilled Wine Wiegela is their shrub of the year. It has great flowers all summer long and great dark foliage," Johnson added.
Johnson Brother Garden Market is located at 91444 Coburg Road in Eugene.
