EUGENE, Ore. -- For weeks, tents have gathered at a property across the street from the federal courthouse in Eugene, and on Monday campers were told they have to leave.

Campers at the site on East 8th Avenue and Mill Street claim they set up shop in protest trying to lobby for legalized camping.

However, one former camper even admitted that while it began with pure intentions things got out of hand.

Monday afternooon, officials with the city told KEZI they posted the site, giving the campers 24 hours to clear out.
