SPRINGFIELD, ORE. -- Hamlin Middle School held a career day for eighth graders on Tuesday.

A dozen professionals from different industries, ranging from culinary arts and business to engineering and health, showed up to talk with students. The event aimed to help students learn about career opportunities before they start high school.

Cynthia Nagao, a family resource coordinator with the school, said if students know what career they might be interested in before they start high school they can better determine which classes to take.

Nagao said the event gave students exposure to different career fields to give them options and teach them how to be successful.

"Even a spark of inspiration or to open their eyes to different career options, so they can start exploring what their personal passions or dreams would be so they can have some idea perhaps what direction they want to take their career goals," Nagao said.

Some students attending the career fair said they enjoyed it and thought it could be helpful.

Chief Meteorologist Marisa Woloszyn and anchor Bob Schaper represented KEZI at the event.
