EUGENE, Ore. -- Community members broke ground on a new Habitat for Humanity home Saturday.

The home will be the first Habitat for Humanity home built by women in nearly 10 years.

The home is for Rachel Sparkman and her son Daniel. Sparkman said she is a recovering alcohol addict, and is celebrating 9 years of sobreity this month.

"There's just been so much, so much of my community that has wrapped their arms around me and give me something that I wouldn't be able to do by myself," Sparkman said.

Around 45 women have taken on the challenge of helping to raise funds for Sparkman's home, and taking on the role as the primary construction crew.

Sparkman said she is thrilled with the location of the home because she believes it will be safe for her son, Daniel.

The house is set to be finished in the next few months.
