PORTLAND, Ore. -- As COVID-19 conditions have changed, so has Gov. Kate Brown’s county watch list.

Two counties have moved off the list, and three have been added, bringing the total number of counties on the list to 10.

The watch list allows the state to boost monitoring and resources in counties seeing the broadest spread of COVID-19.

Brown said in a statement that Lincoln and Union counties have shown success in reducing the spread of the virus.

“I want to applaud county officials and community members in Lincoln and Union Counties for their diligent work in bringing the spread of COVID-19 under control in these areas. Your leadership shows that we can reduce the spread of this disease if we work together,” said Brown.

Union County voluntarily moved back to phase one and Lincoln County decided to stay in phase one. OHA also provided case investigation and contact tracing support, Brown said.

However, Hood River, Marion, and Multnomah counties are now on the list. Brown said counties are placed on the watch list if the virus is spreading quickly and officials can’t contact trace the spread to specific sources.

Counties placed on the list must stay on the list for at least three weeks.

“This is also a good reminder to all Oregonians—especially to those who live in Watch List counties—of the importance of remaining vigilant. I urge all Oregonians to keep practicing physical distancing, wearing face coverings, and practicing good hygiene. Your choices matter, and we are truly all in this together,” Brown said.

The following counties are all on the watch list: Baker, Hood River, Jefferson, Lake, Malheur, Marion, Morrow, Multnomah, Umatilla and Wasco.

While there were concerns Benton County could be added to the list, that is not the case at this time.

The list was first put in place over the Fourth of July weekend.
