IDANHA, Ore. (Nate Hanson, KGW) – An unknown amount of gasoline spilled into the North Santiam River following a fuel truck crash in Linn County Friday night that killed a Bend man.

The crash occurred at 11 p.m. on Highway 22E, about eight miles east of Idanha.

The truck, driven by 58-year-old Ronald Edward Scurlock, lost traction on the icy road and rolled over, blocking the highway, according to Oregon State Police. During the crash, the fuel tank ruptured and caught fire.

The truck was loaded with 11,500 gallons of fuel - some of which has spilled into the North Santiam River. OSP said it's not clear how much fuel has spilled into the river, but the Department of Environmentally Quality is on scene for containment and clean-up.

An Idanha-Detroit fire truck responding to the scene also lost control on the icy road and rolled onto its side. There were additional crashes in the area but no one else was injured, OSP said.

The highway is closed indefinitely because of damage to the road caused by the spill.
