Eugene, Ore. -- Week 2 of Oregon high school football in the Willamette Valley provided some historic moments and some team firsts.

Thurston became the first local team since 2000 to defeat Sheldon, beating the Irish 34-19. Not only does SHS' streak of wins against lower classification teams end, but it's also the Colts first win against Sheldon since 1998.

Siuslaw coach Sam Johnson, at age 23, earned his first win as the Vikings defeated Philomath. It's the first win for Siuslaw since the 2017 season finale.

South Eugene opens the year 2-0 under head coach Kenny Koberstein, while West Albany asserted themselves at the top of the 5A Special District 3 pack.

In 2A, Monroe continues their winning ways, beating Grant Union and Creswell, despite some highlight plays from Dalton Dewey, fall to Warrenton.
