EUGENE, Ore. -- With fall just around the corner, officials suggest getting your flu shot.
In the last two years, officials from Lane County Public Health said they have seen an increase in the number of people with the flu, even seeing double-digit deaths. While they said there is no way to predict what this flu season will be like, they said based on trends and vaccination rates, there's a significant possibility it could be another bad year.
The vaccines are currently available, and there's no shortage of them.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, this year's vaccine has been updated so it can better protect against circulating viruses. Additionally, the nasal spray flu vaccine is once again recommended.
"I think its important because, again, the flu shot is the most effective way to prevent getting the flu and in that way, people around you will also be more safe," said Daan Maasland, a local resident.
The CDC recommends that everyone six months and older get the vaccine.
