EUGENE, Ore. -- FlixBus has hundreds of destinations across Europe and the United States, and University of Oregon students said they're thrilled the service is coming to the Pacific Northwest.
The Pacific Northwest routes will include Eugene and 10 other cities such as Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma, Salem, Corvallis and Albany.
There will be seven round trips daily between Seattle and Portland with ticket prices starting at $9.99.
Many University of Oregon students said this new service will be popular because it targets the two main things students look for: price and accessibility.
"I don’t think there’s a ton of allegiance to the transportation that there is now, so definitely if it’s cheaper, that’s a huge thing. And also it being here on campus is nice,” student Isaac Kruse said.
They said this service will be a game changer and allow students to go home for the holidays.
"Holidays, visiting people that you want to see, being able to have a cheap option to see the people you care about," Aaron O'Gara said.
The pickup and dropoff location for Flixbus in Eugene will be in front of the University of Oregon School of Law on Agate Street.
Many students said this location is preferred compared to other bus services that have on-campus stops.
"Especially with the construction near the EMU, I think people try to avoid the area driving so I think people around the law school, its really easy for people to drop off people there if they're going to catch the bus. I think it's going to be good, especially because people live all around campus, so I think it will be a good cental location," student Claire Pulkownik said.
The pickup location in Corvallis is also on the Oregon State University campus.
The buses will have between 52 to 56 seats, depending on the model, and they said you should get your tickets in advance to get the cheapest option.
Tickets will go on sale on Nov. 21, just in time for Thanksgiving, which Flixbus representatives said was one of the reasons they decided to launch it during this time.
KEZI 9 News reached out to Amtrak and BoltBus to see if they plan on lowering their prices, but they told KEZI 9 News so far there are no plans to anytime soon.
