SALEM, Ore. -- Flags across the nation will be flown at half-staff to honor the victims in the Florida school shooting.

A lone gunman opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on Tuesday, killing at least 17 and injuring several others.

Gov. Kate Brown ordered all flags at Oregon public institutions to be lowered to half-staff.

"My heart goes out to the young victims, their families, and all impacted by the tragic mass shooting in Florida," Gov. Brown said. "As we grieve, it pains me to bear witness to yet another school shooting in America."

She added that there are steps needed to be taken to "reduce incidents like these."

President Trump also issued a national flag order at all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in Washington, D.C. and throughout the United States and its territories.

Flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset on Feb. 19.
