EUGENE, Ore. -- A fire that may have started in a vehicle outside of a business in West Eugene now has two business owners looking to the future.

Joel Kelley, the President of Kelcorp Construction, shares a shop with his friend Chad Landerking, owner of Landerking's Custom Woodworking. Kelley said when they got the call that their shop was on fire, they were gutted.

"I was like, this has got to be some kind of April fool's or something," Kelley said. "But, no. It wasn't."

Landerking said in the half an hour that it took for one of his employees to go cash a check, a fire started in either his Jeep or his truck.

He said though it looks bad from the outside, there is some good news.

"Peeking in the door over there, it looks pretty good," Landerking said. "So, that's a blessing. Everything in the office -- our computers are probably shot. I think the biggest loss is my truck and my jeep. But hey, everybody's fine. Everybody's good."

He said there are some finished products and possibly some tools that were damaged, but he and Kelley will do what they've always done and keep moving.

"We're going to come, we're going to start cleaning up," Landerking said. "I mean hey, like I said, we got work to do and we're going to go get it done."

"We've overcome a lot of hurdles and it's like, wow, here's another one" Kelley said. "But, I think we're just going to take it in stride and just keep on pushing forward. That's all I can really say about it is there's no obstacle too big."

Fire officials said with how windy it was on Monday, that definitely played a role in carrying the fire from the two vehicles parked outside into the building. They said even though accidents like this do happen, if you're looking to burn something on a windy day like it was on Monday, just don't do it. Or, if you do, make sure that it's in small quantities and that you're always watching it.
