LANE COUNTY, Ore. -- The fire marshal for Lane Fire Authority says the house destroyed in Friday morning's blaze is too badly damaged to safely investigate.
Dean Chappell said the cause will likely remain "undetermined." He said the damage is estimated at $230,000.
Multiple fire crews responded to 85464 Appletree Court, located 11 miles southwest of Eugene.
Chappell said one person was inside and was able to escape.
He said the remote area posed a challenge, but it was fortunate that it did not happen later in the fire season.
"If this would have happened closer to the fall when we're into fire season, this could have ended up being a whole lot worse," Chappell said.
Lane Fire Authority warns residents to be careful as we continue into the fire season. As days become warmer, they remind people to put out any fires such as fire pits or barbeques before leaving them unattended.
