ALBANY, Ore. – The family of an Albany man who was fatally shot at Timber Linn Memorial Park this week has set up a memorial site at the park.

Joshua Johnston-Partain, 22, was shot multiple times late Sunday night, police said. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

Now, his family is speaking out. Matthew Boswell got the call that his cousin was shot just a few hours after receiving news that his brother went into cardiac arrest.

"For the whole family in general, it's overwhelming. Losing one family member, and then to turn around and lose two, was just overbearing. And it's very uncalled for. I don't know what's wrong with kids these days. I just don't understand it," said Boswell.

KEZI 9 News also spoke with other members of Joshua's family, including grandmother Mary Napolitano. She said the family is grieving and they cannot believe this happened.

Cousin Monti Jung said she had a close bond with Joshua. She told KEZI 9 News about her final conversation with her cousin.

"The last thing he said to me was, 'Monti, I love you so much,' and that's the last time I heard from him. And then I wake up the next morning and I hear that he's gone, that somebody took his life," said Jung.

Joshua struggled with addiction for a time but was able to recover, according to Napolitano. Twyla Thompson, who says she considered Joshua to be an extended member of her family, shared that he helped her with her own recovery.

"He was an inspiration, to me, myself and my recovery, and in my life. And I know that Joshua is very loved by his community, by those who grew up with him, and by those who were a part of the recovery life," said Thompson.

Police are still searching for the shooter. The Linn County and Benton County sheriff’s offices and the Linn County District Attorney are assisting with the investigation.
