FALL CREEK, Ore. -- Residents along the Fall Creek River east of Jasper are bracing for flooding as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers releases more water from Fall Creek Lake.

Erick Petersen, the operation project manager for the Corps, said the move to release millions of gallons of water from the Fall Creek Dam on the Fall Creek Reservoir comes as more rain is expected in the forecast.

"If we can move that water through the system in a more managed sense, then we can protect lots more people downstream from catastrophic flooding," Petersen said.

Officials with Lane County said residents on Big Fall Creek Road, Place Road and parts of Jasper-Lowell Road should anticipate rising water. There are no evacuations for that area at this time, but officials are encouraging residents to monitor water levels near their property and homes. If residents feel unsafe due to flooding near their homes, officials said they should take whatever action is necessary to ensure their safety.

Pam Price lives next to the Fall Creek River and said the flood waters have already reached her backyard.

"I'm not to terribly concerned," Price said. "Were still high enough that I think we'll be fine, but we are keeping an eye on things."
