EUGENE, Ore. -- The Eugene Springfield Fire Marshal’s Office said the explosion at the Valley River Court Apartments off Goodpasture Loop may have damaged the foundation.

As a precaution, six units in the apartment building have been deemed unsafe by the Fire Marshal’s Office. Crews are working with the property manager as they assess the damage. They hope to know by the end of the day whether or not the apartments are safe.

The explosion happened Thursday night in a unit occupied by a father and son. No one was injured. The son tells KEZI 9 News he left a camping stove next to the oven and was making dinner when the camping stove exploded.

“I was terrified," neighbor Cory Goodin said. "It was scary 'cause we didn't know what happened, and then everything went silent like someone just fell or they dropped something. And then the sirens went off, and we went outside."

Firefighters said the Red Cross is assisting one family.
