CORVALLIS, Ore. -- A large-scale evacuation exercise will be taking place Saturday in Benton County to provide hands-on experience for community members in the event of a real evacuation.

The drill is being led by the Corvallis Fire Department and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. Multiple neighborhoods across Benton County will be taking part.

The exercise will begin at 9 a.m. and last through noon.

Mass notification messages will be sent through Linn-Benton Alert and Corvallis Alert to work through the evacuation steps using ‘Ready-Set-Go.’

  • The first alert – Level 1, Be Ready – was sent at 6 p.m. on June 18.
  • The second alert – Level 2, Get Set – will be sent at 8 a.m. on June 19.
  • The third alert – Level 3, GO – will be sent between 9 a.m. and noon on June 19 to signal the beginning of the evacuation drill.

The alerts are targeted to specific neighborhoods. After the alert is sent, community members are walked through the process of evacuating their homes and travelling to a temporary evacuation site. Then, they will check in with emergency management officials.
