EUGENE, Ore. -- A Eugene woman narrowly escaped being crushed by a large tree during Friday's windstorm.
The 60-year-old Norway Spruce fell just before 1 pm on Fairmont Boulevard near the Matthew Knight Arena.
Kristi, who didn't want to give her last name, said she was pulling into her driveway with her new car when pine cones started falling from the tree. Worried the pine cones would dent her car, Kristi said she moved it and parked in the street. Seconds later, the tree came crashing down.
"I was freaked out," Kristi said. "My first reaction was to leave the scene and get away and run because I thought more trees might come down and I didn't know where to park where I could be safe cause the wind was still whipping."
The tree didn't fall on Kristi's house but came close to hitting another car parked the driveway. The tree also missed a power line by inches.
Arborists have been called in to clean up the mess. They cut down branches that were blocking a nearby sidewalk and plan to finish clearing it up on Saturday.
