EUGENE, Ore. -- The city of Eugene is holding off on increasing parking rates downtown after conducting an online survey to get feedback on the proposal.
Parking prices were set to increase on Friday, but city officials said they are currently reviewing the public’s comments and will not increase rates at the end of the week.

Jeff Petry, parking manager for the city of Eugene, said funding is needed to pay for improvements like better elevators, more lighting and security cameras.
City officials also said they believe the higher fees would influence drivers to use alternative forms of transportation and would hopefully open up parking spaces for people who are willing to pay more.
