Eugene man dies in crash on Highway 38

The 28-year-old was headed west when his car went off the road and hit a tree.

EUGENE, Ore. -- A Eugene man is dead after a crash on Highway 38 on Wednesday.

Oregon State Police said Alec Beutler, 28, was headed west when his Ford Explorer went off the road and hit a tree.

Troopers and emergency personel responded to milepost 51 at about 10:45 a.m.

Beutler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the stretch of Highway 38 between Scottsburg and Wells Creek was closed before opening to a single lane of traffic due to a roadside fire at milepost 17.
