Eugene man allegedly rear-ends detective

Officials said a man who works for a taxi company rear-ended a detective in an undercover vehicle. They said the driver was high.

EUGENE, Ore. -- A detective with the Eugene Police Department was rear-ended Thursday morning.
Officers said James Blair Garner was driving westbound on I-105 when he rear-ended an undercover detective vehicle. They said it happened at 7:50 a.m. during heavy morning traffic.

Arriving officers reported that Garner, 26, was impaired. Further investigation revealed that Garner was high at the time of the crash.

Officers said Garner was driving to work. He works for a taxi company in the area when he struck the detective's car, police said.

The detective was taken to the emergency room with non-life threatening injuries and was released.

Garner was booked into the Lane County Jail. He faces charges of assault and driving under the influence of intoxicants - marijuana. He was also cited for following too closely.
