EUGENE, Ore. – A Eugene man is in jail, accused of breaking into a home and trying to rape a sleeping woman.

Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 33000 block of McKenzie View Drive at 1:40 a.m. after the homeowner called and reported the incident.

The culprit broke out a sliding glass door in the home and entered a bedroom where the female victim was sleeping, the homeowner reported. The man allegedly removed his pants and got in the bed when the victim’s roommates confronted him with a firearm. He ran away.

Suspect Jesse O’Conner, 28, was arrested nearby. Deputies believe he was under the influence of illicit drugs -- likely psilocybin and marijuana -- and he was treated at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center before being taken to the jail.

He faces charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree sexual abuse and first-degree attempted rape.
