EUGENE, Ore. - Eugene's five-year run as the host of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will come to an end this June. The NCAA re-opened the bidding process to host the 2019 and 2020 championships.

Plans to renovate historic Hayward Field are to blame. After the 2021 Outdoor World Championship bid was awarded to Eugene, plans to renovate the facility on the University of Oregon campus were announced as part of a plan to host the event for the first time ever on U.S. soil.

Plans included renovations to begin after the 2016 Olympic Track & Field Trials, but in August of 2016, it was announced renovations were delayed.

A University of Oregon athletic departmen spokesperson told KEZI the school plans to place a bid for the 2020 championships.

Eugene has hosted the NCAA outdoor championships since 2013 and had a deal to continue hosting through the 2021 season. The NCAA's website also still lists Eugene as the host site from 2018-2021.
