EUGENE, Ore. -- The Eugene Police Department has a new interim police chief.
City manager Jon Ruiz sent the following email to all employees Tuesday afternoon:
"I am happy to announce that I have hired David James to serve as Interim Executive Police Director while we recruit and hire a permanent police chief. David will start on December 11 and remain until the City's police chief recruitment process is complete and a permanent chief selected.
David has more than 44 years of experience in municipal law enforcement. His extensive law enforcement background includes 15 years of successful service as chief of the Carrollton, Texas Police Department, a city similar in size to ours. David has also served as an interim police chief for the City of McKinney, Texas, the Town of Flower Mound, Texas, and the City of Colleyville, Texas. I am confident he will provide skilled interim leadership and support our City's commitment to being a welcoming, inclusive and safe community for everyone."
The position for the permanent chief was posted in early November. The department plans on hiring a new chief in the Spring of 2018.
