EUGENE, Ore. -- A Eugene couple is devastated after more than three dozen of their sheep were killed on Monday.

Investigators with the state police said they believe dogs entered the fenced pasture on Clear Lake Road and attacked the sheep.

"There was holes in their skulls. They were torn apart. Every lamb's throat was cut," said Leslie Anthone, one of the owners of the livestock.

Anthone and her boyfriend, Hoot Paulson, said about 40 out of their 53 sheep were killed. They said they had been raising the sheep since January.

"There were sheep down in there with faces ripped off and sheep lying down quivering trying to cling to life," Paulson said.

Anthone said the dogs didn't just kill her livestock, they stole a big part of her and Paulson's lives.

"We've spent 10 grand just on the sheep alone, and that's not counting the thousand hours and 75 days, and our family put money into it and our friends helped us with it."

Anthone said investigators think dogs are to blame because of the prints left behind and said these attacks are more common than you think.

"One of my close friends, Denise, got a hold of me this morning and says her co-worker lives in Clear Lake Road here and she woke up the other morning to 30 of her sheep dead," Anthone said.

The couple is asking anyone with information about this attack to speak up.

"I just hope that people who are sitting at home with muddy, bloody dogs see this and hear this and do the right thing."

Anthone said she's going to move on, but at the same time, she'll never forget.

"To say it was devastating it was an understatement. I'm not going to quit, but it's hard to swallow."
