Eugene council approves downtown dog law

The vote establishes a downtown district with separate rules from the rest of the city.

EUGENE, Ore. -- The city council on Tuesday night unanimously voted to establish special dog rules for the downtown area.

Under the new law unlicensed dogs or dogs without a rabies tag will be immediately removed from downtown.

This is different from the rest of the city in which owners are given a five-day grace period to license illegal animals.

Two weeks ago the council held a public forum on the ordinance during which most people spoke in favor of the idea.
