EUGENE, Ore. -- The coronavirus pandemic has hit local businesses hard, as many have been forced to alter their normal operations.

One Eugene-based bike delivery service wants to let the community know that they are still in business, and they are committed to practicing social distancing policies while doing so.

Michael McKern is one of the co-founders and said that every courier is taking precautions when delivering, including wearing disposable gloves and maintaining the distance at every stop.

“Sometimes that looks like being patient, not clogging up a restaurant and not going in when there’s already too many people involved," McKern said. "Sometimes deliveries can take longer, and I know restaurants are understaffed as well. They’re having to deal with that.”

Cascadian Couriers deliver almost anything from groceries to picking up prescriptions to even sending a loved one flowers on your behalf.

“We’re very capable and couriers are very resilient over all,” McKern said. “We want to try to engage different community members at this point and try to offer our services to make our services more well known to the community, so they don't feel so isolated or alone in this time.”

The service has been around since 2013 and has since expanded to Portland. They partner with local stores and restaurants, such as The Kiva Grocery to meet the needs of the community with minimal contact.

While the group primarily delivers in Eugene, they will travel to surrounding areas with notice.

“Local bike delivery is something that should be around for a very long time, and we would like to see that continue," McKern said.”

Cascade Courier Collective delivers Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and weekends from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
