EUGENE, Ore. -- Far fewer travelers flew out of the Eugene airport this Thanksgiving weekend than in the past.
According to the airport, travel over the weekend was down nearly 58% compared to the same weekend in 2019.
On Friday, 603 passengers left from Eugene followed by 905 Saturday and 1007 on Sunday.
The airport does not track the amount of people flying in, but says it’s usually about the same number as those heading out.
Nationwide, the Transportation Security Administration said more people passed through checkpoints on Sunday than on any other single day since the coronavirus pandemic began.
On the day before Thanksgiving, 1,070,967 people passed through security at America's airports, setting a pandemic-era record. That number is just 40% of last year's passenger volume on the same day, when 2,602,631 people were screened.
