EUGENE, Ore. -- A former officer with the Eugene Police Department is under criminal investigation after a female accused him of sexually assaulting her.

The alleged incident occurred on May 27, according to Jamie Clark.  Three days prior, she said Eugene Police were called to her home on a domestic violence call. Clark said the officer in question was sexually inappropriate with her and they exchanged text messages on both the officer's personal and work phone.

According to Clark, the officer came over to her home, which is when she said the assault happened.

KEZI 9 News is aware of the officer's name, but is not identifying him because he has not been arrested or charged with a crime.

A statement from EPD calls the woman's allegations "disturbing." The department says the officer resigned on June 10 after being placed on administrative leave on May 27. However, Clark said she never was told about his resignation.

"Eugene police has been very closed lipped and they have not acknowledged and they did not even tell me he resigned," Clark said. "I heard that through the Salem investigators, went to confirm it, and they refuse to give me any official confirmation or anything."

The Salem Police Department investigated the allegations, and the results were forwarded to the Lane County District Attorney's Office for consideration of charges.

Last Wednesday a group of demonstrators gathered outside of Eugene Police headquarters demanding answers. Five people ended up being arrested and charged with rioting after police said they vandalized their building.

Here is the full statement from police:

On May 28, 2020, the Eugene Police Department responded to a call for service and made contact with a female. During the interaction the female reported information regarding a contact she had the prior day with a Eugene Police officer. This information was concerning and the Eugene Police Department immediately requested for an outside agency to initiate an investigation into the allegations. This request was made to ensure a thorough, fair and impartial investigation was conducted. Salem Police Department sent detectives who completed their investigation and have since forwarded it to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges. The night the allegations were made, the officer was placed on administrative leave and on June 10, 2020, tendered his resignation from the Eugene Police Department.

Any time a certified police officer in the State of Oregon resigns during the course of an internal or external misconduct investigation, police agencies are required to submit a personnel action-separation form (F4) to the Department of Public Safety and Training. This submission will initiate a DPSST professional standards investigation on the separated employee in order to determine if the separated employee will maintain their Oregon police certification.

Clark said she's frustrated the officers are not holding each other accountable.

"Cops are isolating themselves by protecting bad cops and they're making it to where they're the only ones want to be around themselves in an echo chamber, they're going to have to be by themselves," Clark said.

KEZI did reach out to the Lane County District Attorney's office for a status on the case, but we have not heard back.
