EUGENE, Ore. -- The Eugene Mission opened its new kitchen for its first Thanksgiving dinner since a fire destroyed their old kitchen in June 2016.

Staff said insurance paid for nearly half of the $800,000 to rebuild and the community paid for the rest of the state of the art kitchen.

The Eugene Mission gives out 700 meals a day. Chief Marshall Eck said they will be cooking up about 100 turkeys, making fresh gravy, potatoes, and stuffing for the holiday meal.

KEZI 9 News was in the kitchen as the staff served up breakfast Wednesday morning and continued preparations for Thursday feast.
