EUGENE, Ore. – The Eugene City Council unanimously passed a resolution Monday night supporting the right to a safe and legal abortion.
The resolution also allows the city to monitor lawsuits that could come out of restrictive abortion legislation. If a lawsuit were to be filed, this resolution would allow the city to play a role in advising.
The resolution is effective immediately.
Community members spoke at the public forum, some for the resolution and others against it.
City council members said access to care is vital to the health of people in the community.
