Early morning fire destroys home in Eugene

Fire officials said the homeowner ran back into the home to rescue his two dogs after the fire broke out.

EUGENE, Ore. – A man was taken to the hospital after a house fire Saturday morning.

Fire crews responded to Marcum Lane around 2:30 a.m.

Officials said the fire likely started in the garage and then spread to the house, severely damaging it. They said the home is uninhabitable.

Additionally, fire officials also said the homeowner ran back into the home to rescue his two dogs after the fire broke out. Soon after, they said he was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
