SALEM, Ore. – Some inmates may be released early due to the coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Kate Brown announced Friday.

Moving forward, the director of the Department of Corrections will provide Brown with information about adults in custody who are vulnerable to the virus and what steps could be taken to slow the spread.

“My top priority is keeping Oregonians safe and healthy – regardless of where they are living,” Brown said.

Brown added that she does not want to compromise public safety, and does not have plans to abandon a case-by-case approach.
