EWEB warns customers of scam

EWEB say scammers are targeting small businesses

EUGENE, Ore -- The Eugene Water and Electric Board is warning customers about a scam it says is targeting small businesses.

EWEB says scammers are telling their targets their power will be turned off if they don't make a payment in 30 minutes. The company says the scammers are "spoofing" its main phone number on caller ID and replicating the utility phone's greeting message to seem authentic and credible.

One business even reported having a scammer visit in a truck that looked very similar to an EWEB truck.

EWEB says it never threatens to disconnect power within an hour if payments are not made.
